House Azure

"Deep waters, deeper counsel."

The House Azure Chronicle

The Story

Four scenes from a war they intend to win.

Scene 1

The Grey Fleet

Two hundred sails, three deep harbours, one signal-lantern that has not gone dark in six generations. This is the true strength of Azure.

Scene 2

The Counting-House

In Marren, a room where every loan the realm has ever taken is written down. Azure remembers all of them. Azure intends to be paid.

Scene 3

The Harbourmaster's Chair

Lord Corvin Marren-Azure sits it now, and speaks softly, and moves fleets with a nod. He was the last man to see the old king alive who was not accused.

Scene 4

The Long Patience

Azure does not raid for glory. Azure raids for leverage. Every keep it takes becomes a port, and every port becomes a chain.

The Claim

The Iron Kings ruled the land. Azure ruled the sea that fed it. Every grain of Ironhold's bread crossed a Blue deck; every coin in its treasury was weighed on a Blue scale. When the throne broke, the House that quietly held half the kingdom's ledgers did not intend to keep them quiet.

What Drives Them

Order. Azure does not hunger for a crown for glory's sake — they hunger for the harbours to open again, the tariffs to be paid, the maps to be drawn once more. A realm at war is a realm that does not trade, and Azure was not built to endure silence at its docks.

Their Origin

Founded not by a warrior but by a harbourmaster — Ilsa of Marren, who bought her first three ships with a widow's savings and drowned any captain who cheated her. Her descendants have never once lost the port she named.

Where They Stand Now

Azure holds the western coast, the four deep harbours, and the counting-houses of the merchant princes. Their fleet outweighs any two Houses combined. Their armies are small — because their gold is not.

The Creed of House Azure

  • "A ledger is a longer memory than a monument."
  • "The tide is patient. So are we."
  • "Buy the enemy's grain before you burn his fields."
  • "A war paid for is half-won already."
Sworn Enemy
House Verdant, who closed the forest roads and starved the ports.
Uneasy Ally
House Amethyst, whose scholars keep the maps they both need.
